Poetry & Cartoon Guidelines

Poetry:
Poems must relate to our editorial subject matter and contain a touch of humor or some twist of fate. We seek action-oriented verse offering insight into human or animal nature and/or working with draft animals and other livestock. Poems that tie in with the seasons are always welcome; submit them at least six months in advance.
We do not use:
  nostalgia
  sad memories
comparisons between country and city life
  image-oriented verse
  religious themes
  political themes
  issues-oriented verse
Format: We prefer short poems of 12 lines or less. We consider only old-fashioned poems with traditional meter and true rhyme. We do not publish free verse or stream of consiousness.
Submission: Send no more than three poems at a time, one per page or email message. You need not include a cover letter or bionote. For a reply to a mailed submission, include a self-addressed stamped envelope.
Cartoons:
Cartoons must relate to our editorial subject matter. Ink is preferable, but pencil is acceptable if the lines are solid and erasures are not visible.
Payment: On publication
