wagon history detectives?

I am trying to find a manufactuing date for a wagon. It has Nieburg Mfg. Wright City (MO) painted on it. I have found that the Nieburgs moved their business to Wright City in 1874 and apparently were still in business in 1895. Can anyone suggest a good reference for this search? Books, web sites? Maybe patent dates for styles of brakes, running gears, etc.
