Looking for info on our mare
Posted by Travis Williams at 2008-08-28 18:18:48
We have a reg. Belgian mare named Burdett's Meg she is Marcus du Marais, Farceur and Ordorff bred. I have been trying to find previous owner info as she was headed to the auction when we found her. She is exceptionally well trained and will pull anything. I would just like to know where she came from and how such a good horse ended up dumped.

If you have her papers, call the Belgian Corporation Office in Wabash, Indiana 260-563-3205 They are always willing to help.

If you have the papers, contact the last recorded owner. You also could try the owner who first registered her. That could take a while to track it down. If you bought it through an auction you should have the hip tag #. Go back to the auction and they can find the owner who consigned the horse by that.
At least in N.D. thats how it works.

You should be able to find out from the breed association previous owners. Or contact the breeder and go from there. Wouldn't think it would be very difficult to trace it.

For the record- good horses are dumped every day.

Going to an auction doesn't mean he's being dumped a lot of the time. The spring and fall Southern In. Machinery and Draft Auctions have some of the best horses and highest selling horses I've ever seen. They have gotten harder to buy there with out a big bank account. For a couple years I was buying weanlings for $175 - $250. The fall sale after the bottom dropped out I was expecting to get some for around $100. The cheapest were $450
