Cowboy for Christ
Posted by Rob at 2009-06-22 13:22:28
I was on here a couple of wks ago selling my mules to a fellow in South Carolina and it was time to meet him about half way for both of us it would be at Banks Farms Campground, about 340 miles from southern IN.I did not make it,i only made it to MT Vernon,Ky before my truck quit,so with two mules in a trailer sitting along the highway we called a wrecker service near us to come help got towed to the service center or tire store and no one knew how to fix diesel truck. The buyer of the mules had to come get them he had to make most of the trip less 185miles that i made, all went well he picked up his mules and headed home.I was there till about 5pm when i ask can you just tow me back to Indiana and the owner who had told me i was in good hands because he was one of the cowboys for christ, well about two hours later we were on our way and after we had a blow out on the wrecker with no spare and we got someone to fix that we made it back to Southern IN.at about 1am the next morning and it only cost me $865dollars to tow me 185miles sure am glad i did not run into cowboys for Satan not sure what that would have cost.

So you never asked how much it would cost you to be towed back to IN? Well if it was 185 miles and it costs you $865.00 in my books that works out to $4.68 per mile, I had some shipping done and it cost me $4.00 a loaded mile. Seeing he took you back home the 185 miles, which was your truck and trailer, I would hope you did not think it was going to be free?

I am sure the Mules paid for all of it and you broke even.

Sorry i guess this was a fair price.I was just a little upset when they towed me off the highway i ask if they had a diesel mechanic and they said they did and after six hours they told me he worked for another garage and he could not come to look at my truck untill Monday because he was going to a tent revival. And yes i did ask the price and when we got back to Indiana it was $150 more because he had to take back roads because he was illegal pulling the truck and trailer so it was farther oh well all is well i paid him and the truck and trailer are back in Indiana and the mules are in South Carolina doing fine. Thanks Rob

Why didn't you harness the mules and hook to the front bumper, sit on the hood and continue on? (being somewhat sarcastic here)
Response by Gene at 2009-06-23 13:16:02
Of course, you had to pay for the wrecker to drive back to Mt Vernon, KY also.

Sounds like one of those deals!
Response by Vicki at 2009-06-23 15:29:42
So do I understand that the owner of a vehicle service center (that's a business, right?) towed your truck and trailer during the night 185 miles then drove his wrecker back to his location, after he had already towed you from the highway, and he charged you for it? Shocking. . .

My Dad used to say that the more someone tries to convince you how "Christian" they are, there are two things you should watch closely; your wife and your wallet.
Response by Randle at 2009-06-23 20:42:42
It seems New Mule Girl was the only one to 'get' what Rob was saying. This "Cowboy For Christ" not only lied about having a diesel mechanic, but then charged extra AFTER getting underway because he KNEW he was towing illegally in Indiana.

I'd have been 'righteously' pissed off! And that "Cowboy" would NOT have made $800+ on the deal!!

Wonder how much of that, if any, he put in the plate at the revival??!?!!?
Response by Rob at 2009-06-24 10:27:07
I was caught off guard in a town in the middle of nowhere and i am not a world traveler never been broke down with two mules and one tired woman with the people at the garage telling us that the diesel mechanic was on the way and after it seemed too late to have someone come from Indiana so i used those folks.I did check with another company after the fact and was told it would be $650 so its over and paid and just waiting to see what is wrong with my truck. Thanks ROB

Need to watch those overly religious people. Maybe their consciences is bothering them.
Response by chuck bolton at 2009-06-24 13:16:07
other than $865 being a lot of money-- i dont think its too bad-- in mid missouri-- to have a light truck or car towed, its $3.00 a loaded mile-- i would have discussed added milage because he was illegal--
Response by JWM at 2009-06-24 14:25:20
well the guy did what he was asked to do and if his job is towing, he deserves to be paid for it. I think it was crazy to get towed back like that. When I break down, I find the nearest town with a capable mechanic and I wait. Spend the money on repairs not on towing.

The original post was completely unclear that this "cowboy" misled then overcharged. If he did, shame on him, and double shame for disgracing Christ. Cowboy's lot will be worse if he does not make it right than poor Rob who lost only money in the incident. Sorry it happened to you, Rob.

New mule gal, your dad is wise. Rob, you're getting wiser, the hard way.

Rob why did'nt you call me . I would have let you used my truck . You were only about 50 miles from where I live .
Response by Rodney from Texas at 2009-06-26 19:20:34
I was told by my folks as a young man all education cost money, it how you deal with the money spent and how you use the knowlege that you paid the money for.

I broke down in NY state years ago with two horse still with me going to canada. It was after dark and less than 50 miles into Canada. I was lucky that no one got hurt, it took two days before I could head out to Canada, but when all was over and done, I was happy to be back home to Texas

So Rob. Who are you mad at? The cowboy or Christ??
Response by jwaller at 2009-06-28 11:55:02
I once worked for a religion centered health care organization. I didn't make any points after a few months when I informed my administrator that "the longer I work for you religious types, the less I want to spend eternity with you". Boy, he didn't like me AT ALL after that one.

Then I really hit a sore spot when I pointed out that my religious training indicated that the Good Lord had really all his troubles with the religious establishment of His day.

Then I became totally Politically Incorrect by telling a joke. "The Pope called Billy Graham. Said 'Rev Graham, I have good news and bad news. Christ has returned. The bad news is He just called me from Salt Lake City'". Isn't it amazing how many groups you can offend with one story?

P.S.-there is a God and He has a terrific sense of humor-the ardvark, woodticks, my marriages, t.v. evangelists, hemorroids and most all pop rock stars.
Response by Cheri at 2009-06-28 22:03:03
Rob, did you get your truck fixed? What was wrong? What would everyone else do if you broke down? I've heard of several people using USRider, but I don't haul enough.
I'm with jwaller, only I would add bumble bees.
Response by Mooney Ranch at 2009-06-28 23:58:41
Cheri. I'd have called my buddy and neighbor and said, " you know that tabcacos gonna need cut and hung soon. Get your butt up here and bring a trailer, and anything else we need! "
Response by Rob at 2009-06-29 07:35:32
Hey Mooney
Not mad at any one i paid the bill,i guess i am not happy with the mechanic that would leave someone stranded to go to a tent revival.I am not a religious man but i do believe in God and i don't think this would be his way,you don't leave someone stranded or at least i would not.Mule man i did not know what to do i was led to believe that a mechanic would be there at any minute. If i have learned any thing in my life most people do not care about other peoples problems they only care about other peoples money.Cheri,my truck has been in a shop in my area and when i had it towed there they said that they were backed up with work and it would be awhile before they could look at it so it should be today,i am not sure what is going on but in the last week the truck broke the tiller broke and the weed eater is broke and i am soon to be broke.Rob

Rob, been there. Everything decides to go belly up at the same time. No where to go but up!

Words of wisedome-anything with a mammory system or wheels will sooner or later give you lots of trouble.
Response by Andrew at 2009-08-01 06:30:02
I'm from just across the county line, was it a revival or an actual tent revival? I've never seen them use an actual tent before.

Richmond's less than an hour away from Mt Vernon, they should have just let you call someone up there, or in Berea.

Rockcastle county has a reputation for being full of mean SOBs so I'm not surprised they looked to shaft you. Sorry for you, but not surprised.
