Far Infrared Technology vs. Ceramic (Back on Track)
Posted by Dianna Blasingim at 2008-05-22 21:32:05
Hi, Dr. Valentine. I know this is outside your area of expertise, but I was wondering if you "heard" anything or if perhaps any of your regulars (who all appear to be well clued in on stuff) can explain to me the difference in the technology between infrared wraps and wraps with "ceramic powder" (i.e. Back on Track products).

The lymphantigis horse I have has a certain amount of stocking up if left undone on one hind leg - and the fetlock on this leg has some arthritis and the pastern also (of course) maintains sime size to it too.

On the other hind he has a possible old suspensory issue that I would like to "do the best for"

He also has a suspensory (old) up front on his left front ... otherwise he is good (Ha! Ha!).

I don't know which of the technologies would be better suited, or if I should just put the money into DMSO and Arnica and my favorite sheepskin wraps.

All input is greatly welcomed and appreciated.

Dianna, you're right here too - I don't have any experience with these heating wraps. I haven't heard anything about them from the practitioner lists either, but I'll keep my eyes and ears open. Be sure to keep working with your veterinarian as he or she likely has far more experience with wraps than I do :)

Dianna-

When I was at the National Drive last year at the KY Horse Park there was a vendor selling ceramic wraps, blankets, etc. I have a Paint gelding that, during the winter, is pretty stiff in the rear until he warms up. I bought the ceramic quarter sheet to drape over his butt when it is cool. It has cut the warm up time to about 10 minutes! One day I wondered how it felt, so I draped it over my legs while I was sitting out in the barn waiting for everyone to finish their breakfast-it gets quite warm!! There were lots of people buying from this vendor-he was sold out before the end of the event.

Liz
