DVD Compatibility Issues
by Bill Edmunds

By popular request we offer the newer titles in the Rural Heritage Video Series in DVD format. Of the many different forms of DVD, the one we offer is DVD-R, which will play on about 90% of all DVD players. This means DVD-R will not play on about 10% of all DVD players, mainly older or off-brand units that cannot play DVDs recorded at certain bit-rates. Nearly any DVD player made since 2001 will play DVD-R. For information on DVD compatibility issues, visit: DVD Demystified

Before ordering a DVD from Rural Heritage, please check the following site to see if your DVD player is compatible with DVD-R: DVD Player Compatibility

To add to the confusion for our friends outside the USA, DVD-R is a region 1 format, which is equivalent to the videotape format NTSC. Rural Heritage DVD-Rs are not compatible with PAL, the format used in most of Europe and in many other countries. For information on NTSC versus PAL, see International Video Standards.
