 Skydog Farm
We have a 100-acre sustainable farm in the Upper Delaware River Valley. Our business focus is raising heritage livestock and heirloom vegetables for the local Catskill and New York City markets. We incorporate into our farming practice the holistic earth friendly principles of permaculture.
Overview
- Source of power: 4 horses, tractor
- Equine are used to: logging, blue stone quarrying, manure spreading, general farm chores.
- Other livestock: Katahdin sheep, heritage poultry, Australian cattle dogs.
- Acreage: 106; 6 in garden, 10 in crops, 10 in pasture, 80 in woodlot.
- Skills offered in: heirloom organic gardening, seed saving, horse training, livestock management, landscaping within sustainable agriculture/permaculture model.
- Work hours: 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., 5 days/wk.
- Terms: room and board in exchange for shared chores and an eagerness to learn and participate in daily needs of the homestead; lunch and dinner provided during work hours; one apprentice at a time, 3 months minimum spring, summer, or fall.
- Stipend: yes, depending on level of experience.
